Published material usually reflects someone's personal interest, which they're kind enough to write up.Ī couple of Imel's own cameras appear in the video. There *are* credentialed engineers with actual day jobs who sometimes comment on latest tech, but they're found (if at all) on production sites, and the current pay is so low, and comprehensive analysis so time consuming, that such reviews are rare. Posts citing these people here as if they were respected authorities in the field haven't been seen in these numbers for about a year now. I think you'll find most post-production professionals don't take any of these "influencers" seriously, or even know their names, no matter how many subscribers they may have. I guess that's how he hopes to get to a million subscribers He's trying to carve out a niche as an Apple Fan/Bad Boy, and now he's trying to portray himself as more honest than other reviewers without using names, to wit Dave Lee and Marques Brownlee. So far, I've tried out using the MacStudio with Capture One, iZotope RX and Ozone and DaVinci Resolve colour grading. On a consumer level, how much that matters depends on how much one uses third party apps, and which ones. I agree with your main point, shared by many, that there's a way to go before third party apps take full advantage of Apple's processors. I think he knows perfectly well that the issue is rather more complicated than that. His tear-down video was entertaining, but his assertion that Apple "lied" is blatantly untrue, and he's effectively telling people that if they buy a Mac Studio they'll be able to install their own storage. By his own account, he's uploading about six videos a week, which is part of the reason why I have trouble making sense of them and at this point avoid him and his channel. I think he's a carny barker, flooding YouTube with videos. Look at the number of comments on his YouTube videos about how Max "tells is like it is" - unlike others, of course. I guess that's how he hopes to get to a million subscribers, which he now talks about repeatedly. Personally, I don't take Max Yuryev seriously and I don't take anything that he says at face value. Comes down to software I think and how it uses the resource. The 3090 has almost twice the CUDA cores of the 3070 and the 3070 is 50% faster than the Ultra in these tests and twice as fast as the Max. For the tests so far I am not sure the Ultra is as good a deal as the Max and if you want real performance you may still be better off with a PC workstation with 3090 etc. Power consumed, then Mac clearly has an advantage but if shear performance is needed I still expect a similarly priced PC workstation to beat the Ultra. It will come down to specific work flows I think. It will be even more with the 3080 or 3090. For software that uses CUDA this is a big difference in performance. the-price/īut NVIDIA still has the lead by a long way even for the 3070. The Mac Studio shows us exactly why Apple left Intel behind: Īn Apple monitor where "5k" doesn't describe the price. ![]()
